Since blueberries have shallow roots, add a thick layer of pine needles or wood chips as mulch. This keeps the roots cozy through our Indiana winters and blocks pesky weeds. Pollinator gardens provide habitat and food for native pollinating bees, wasps, moths, andbutterflies, including the iconic monarch butterfly. Usage of these plants in gardens is rising -- in tandem with greater awareness of the important ecological functions that pollinators provide.
